{Painting Our Doors... Something Other Than White}

I've always thought that interior doors were supposed to be white.  I've never known anything else so when I came across Kim at The Twice Remembered Cottage I was in awe!  She painted her doors blue.  Yes, I said blue.  Actually it's called Tranquility by Valspar.  I was in love.  I knew immediately that I wanted to paint our doors too.  And add the embellishment she added.  The doors are gorgeous.

We have the same 6 panel door with the ORB door handles and when I look down the hall I can see these blue doors and it makes me smile.  Or so I thought.  Until Kim totally confused me.   She repainted the blue doors an espresso color.

Now I'm totally confused.  My husband loves the blue color.  I was surprised because it is a pastel and most men don't like pastels.  He loved the idea of painting the doors another color besides white which too surprised me.  I don't know what to do now.  I think I'm going to buy a quart of the  Tranquility and see how I like it first and then go from there.  Any thoughts?

  1. Well, I LOVE the blue! I think it brightens the room yet is soft enough to not be overpowering or clash.By the way, I am so glad I have you as my inspiration because I was going to replace all the interior doors in my house (they are from the 1960s) but I didn't want the 6-panel door because that's what everyone has. So I found some doors I liked but they are almost $200 each. Ouch! Hubby will be happy to see I am willing to do 6-panel with the embellishment... what a GREAT idea!! :)

  2. I love the blue too and I think I'm going with that because I think in our space the espresso would be way too dark! We had doors from the early 50's that were boring and ugly to say the least and I too wanted to replace them with something other than the 6 panel door but the one I liked was around the $200 mark too but I couldn't bring myself to buy them. I purchased the same embellishment from Lowe's and it was like $5 I think. Not expensive at all and it makes a HUGE statement I think. I can't wait to show off my doors. Make sure you post pics too!

  3. Wow! This is what I like about looking are everyone's blog. I never thought about door colors. The blue is really pretty but so is the espresso. Does it matter what color your walls are? Thanks for the pictures.

  4. Peggy,

    I was wondering the same thing about wall color. I'm going to ask Kim from The Twice Remembered Cottage and see what she says since she was the one with the brilliant idea to paint the door to begin with! I'll let you know what she says!
